A haunting and utterly original novel in which a famous pianist confronts unresolved emotional aspects of his life

Ryder, a renowned pianist, arrives in a Central European city he cannot identify for a concert he cannot remember agreeing to give. But then as he traverses a landscape by turns eerie and comical-and always strangely malleable, as a dream might be-he comes steadily to realise he is facing the most crucial performance of his life.

Ishiguros extraordinary study of a man whose life has accelerated beyond his control was met on publication by consternation, vilification -and the highest praise.

About the Author:

Kazuo Ishiguro was born in Nagasaki, Japan, in 1954 and came to Britain at the age of five. He is the author of seven A Pale View of Hills, An Artist of the Floating World, The Remains of the Day, The Unconsoled, When We Were Orphans, Never Let Me Go and Nocturnes.
